The La Inmaculada Credit Union Limited is the executing agency in partnership with St. Francis Xavier Credit Union Limited for the Small Scale Enterprise Development in Agriculture and Tourism for the Orange Walk and Corozal Communities funded by the European Union in collaboration with the Government of Belize. This project was signed on December 30, 2008 and will have an implementation period of two (2) years. The Secretariat for LICU-SSEDAT, comprising of a Project Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant/Accountant, is located at 5 Park Street, Orange Walk Town, on the second floor of the La Inmaculada Credit Union Limited. The project entails the following four activities with their expected results.

ACTIVITY A – MSE DEVELOPMENT

  • to develop a non-traditional agricultural crop system
  • to develop a livestock industry
  • to develop inland small-scale fish farming industry, consistent supply & facilitate necessary training
  • to develop a traditional/non-traditional arts & craft trade

 

ACTIVITY B – MICROGRANTS

An average $1,400.00 BZ (one person per family) Results:

  • 80 extreme poor families receive grants of an average of $1,400.00
  • 40 small businesses assisted or created
  • 40 credit union accounts opened

 

ACTIVITY C – INSTITUTIONAL

STRENGTHENING

  • Training to strengthen the capacity building
  • Provide training for small business groups
  • Promotion of MSEs integration to the different networks
  • EU funding procedures

Results:

  • 40 small businesses trained and trainers identified
  • Successful evaluation of the credit unions
  • 2 motor bikes purchased

 

ACTIVITY D – INSTITUTIONAL

STRENGTHENING Results:

  • Information disseminated in at least 10 rural villages in both Orange Walk & Corozal
