The La Inmacualda Credit Union Limited (LICU) was the only Belizean institution that participated in a three-year Caribbean Capacity Building Project (CARIB-CAP) aimed at enabling Caribbean Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) to improve financial performance and outreach from 2009 to 2011. LICU gained much knowledge, expertise and exposure and was poised to expand its operations as the only structured institution delivering microcredit. The technical assistance provided by the CARIBCAP project was delivered byhighly qualified and specialized consultants from Développement International Desjardins (DID). DID provided LICU with general training sessions both in Belize and in the Caribbean, personalized training in house through four (4) short term missions and one volunteer mission. After the implementation of its newly developed Micro Finance Product, Quick Credit, LICU was one of the proud winners of the Good Practice Incentive Awardsfor Outstanding Performance in December 2011. This award was awarded as per DID’s selection criteria based on the level of achievement of the performance targets and qualitative criteria. The award also included winnings of US$30,000.
