Carib-Cap II was immediately launched in January 2012 with the aim to continue the effort of Carib-Cap I by providing capacity-building to additional institutions in the region and by giving the Carib-Cap I beneficiaries additional tools to foster sustainability, such as product development capability, and the fundamentals of “responsible” microfinance (i.e. social performance tools, corporate governance and client protection training.)

LICU immediately submitted their request for participation after the excellent results and assistance obtained from Carib-Cap I. The assistance and support was once again provided via local and regional trainings and short term missionsthat have greatly assisted in our becoming better trained, offering enhanced products and services and accessing valuable information from key stakeholders in the region.

LICU was highlighted when the CITI Foundation, the Caribbean Microfinance Alliance and the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) hosted the award ceremony for the 1st annual Citi Micro Entrepreneurship Awards for the Caribbean on September 30, 2012. The Excellence in Micro Entrepreneurship Award (US $3,000.00) was won by Javier Basto, owner of Basto& Sons Plantain Chips, and proud member of LICU. Mr. Romaldo Cal, also a member of LICU, received a certificate of recognition.

LICU was also showcased at the 2nd Annual Citi Micro Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremonies in 2013 when we won the Citi Award for Excellence in Microfinance Transparency in the Caribbean with a cash prize of US$5,000 which recognizes Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) and micro entrepreneurs that have demonstrated remarkable success in the Caribbean. LICU also received an award of recognition as the second runner up for the Product Innovation Award for our Quick Credit Loan product.
